Earl Anthony Congrats! Nice hole-in-one for a 80 year old!

I used a 9 iron and it was witnessed by Ralph Mclaughlin and Tom Ault. I am 80 years old and it was my first hole in one in 60 + years of golfing. The shot was going right for the pin and I knew it was close. I was approaching the green with my putter and didn’t see my ball.
I jokingly called to Tom Ault to look and see if it was in the hole, he looked down and there it was. It was a great thrill after all these years.

Todd Duncan Congrats! 323 Yard Hole-in-one!!!

Par 3’s are like kryptonite for me. I never thought that I would get a hole-in-one let alone on a par 4 that was 323 yards away. After we tee’d off on the par 4 (Hole #15 @ Community Golf Club in Dayton, Ohio – Hills Course), I knew I hit a good shot and it was heading in the direction of the green. When my foursome got closer to the green, we were all surprised that we couldn’t see my ball. We knew it was heading towards the green. We looked in the greenside bunker, wasn’t there. We looked in the tall rough next to the bunker, wasn’t there. Then my golf partner looked in the whole and said here it is. I said, “No way”. He repeated and said, for real… here it is. I said, “stop playing with me”. He looked at me a third time and said, Todd… It’s in the hole. He pulled the flag and out popped my ball. We all started jumping around like little kids. The group behind us (in our golf league) thought that we had chipped in a ball for an eagle and couldn’t understand why we were so excited about an eagle. So they called us on their cell phone and I told them that my tee shot went into the hole. The cell phone got quiet on the other end for a few second…… and then we heard them start screaming and jumping around too. After they calmed down, I asked them why they were sooooo excited about my hole-in-one and they said…. Duncan’s buying beer…. Duncan’s buying beer. Then all of us again started jumping around for joy. It was hilarious and exciting at the same time. If my wife was there, she would have simply looked at us and said….”guys”. I’m still on cloud nine! The other exciting part about the whole thing is that about a year ago, I witnessed my golf partner get a hole-in-one and now he got to see mine. What a great feeling. Now I can cross the “hole-in-one” item off of my list of things to accomplish in life :-)

Longest Hole In One on Record

Have you often wondered how professional golfers seem to hit the ball with such skill and accuracy? Or how about when someone gets a hole in one? Many wonder if it is a matter of luck or skill or a little bit of both. Getting a hole in one is one of the most sought after achievements for golfers. It has eluded even some of the best golfers in the world but some golfers have managed to pull it off from all lengths. Anytime a golfer gets a hole in one it is a sight to see. But what is the longest hole in one on record?

There have been many hole in ones recorded over the years, and many are quite impressive. Some records have been challenged due to technical reasons, but others hold strong. On July 4th, 2002 at the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver, CO, Michael J. Crean sunk a hole in one on a Par 5 hole with a distance of 517 yards. Although the distance on this hole in one would have qualified it as being the longest hole in one, because of a dogleg on the hole, the ball actually cut the corner and it was not officially recognized as the longest hole in one.

Although some golfers have came very close, there is still one record that is yet to be beat and that held strong for over 40 years. For many years, the longest hole in one on record occurred on October 7, 1965 at the Miracle Hills Golf Course in Omaha. Robert Mitera hit a beauty of a shot–a 447 yard hole in one making it the longest record ever! In 2007, Bret Melson hit the new record in Oahu, Hawaii at 448 yards, beating the old record by just one yard. While these are not common at this distance, there have been a few others who have managed to come close. The longest double eagle on books was recorded by Kevin Murray on the 2nd hold at the Guam Navy Golf Course with an astonishing 647 yard hole.

Many golf courses are now holding their own versions of hole in one contests for fun and prizes. If you want to host your own golfing event or hole in one contest, one of the easiest ways to add some major excitement is to offer large prize payouts with coverage through National Hole-In-One Association. Whether you are planning a charity golf event, million dollar shootout or a putting contest, you should look into purchasing hole-in-one coverage for your contest. With NHIOA , you will get the protection and support you need to have a successful golf event.

Most golf event coordinators are turning to hole-in-one insurance to make their events more secure and be a lot more exciting. Hole in one contests are very popular and fun events that usually attract large crowds. Having a hole in one contest with coverage through National Hole-In-One Association is a great way to feel secure.

Congratulation to Ira Levinsky! Hole-in-one Wentworth Hills Golf Club

Playing with his regular golf buddies Gary N., Stu G. and Carl A. at Wentworth Hills Golf Club in Plainville, MA on a cool, overcast Saturday morning at the beginning of May, Ira Levinsky watched with amazement as he swung his faithful five iron with perfect tempo and guided the ball 138 yards onto the green. The foursome watched it roll and roll and roll ever so slightly to the left and fall masterfully into the tiny hole on the distant, yet clearly visible, 11th green. It was a dream come true as four fifty-somethings celebrated as if they had ALL just scored their first ace. For the moment, Ira was definitely “the man”.

Social Media for Golfers

For an avid golfer, golfing can be so enjoyable that for some their passion goes well beyond the course. Many golfers seek to meet others who share the same drive for the game of golf as they do. They often wish to get golfing tips or to know how to get involved with golf related events but aren’t sure where to access this information.
Well, thanks to the ever-growing Internet, there are now a number of websites devoted exclusively to social media and networking for golfers and fans of golf. National Hole-in-One Association has done some research for you:

Golf News Net has also created the most popular blog spot for golfers, called Waggle Room. Together these social media sites are able to help major golf tours promote online, educate other golfers and fans, and much more. Both sites work together to bring the most social media to the golfing world.
Waggle Room
An extension of GNN and the most popular blog site for golfers, Waggle Room is user-generated by allowing members to post their own articles into Waggle Room’s blogs. Known as ‘FanPosts’ and ‘FanShots,’ members can upload their own content, stats, pics, and pure funnies that may or may not have to do with golf. Any site visitor may access the schedule for major golf events, such as the PGA Tour, at any time.
Just like with GNN, you can send direct questions to Ryan Ballengee. He promises to have access to the best of the best in golf to get you the answers you need.

Hole-in-one: A shot of a Life time. Congrats Paul Hertensen!

Here’s Paul’ story that he submitted:

I made a hole-in-one during a tournament and it was witnessed by several golfers in the tournament from other than those on my team. The hole I hit this perfect shot up is hill (about forty feet higher than the tee box). Hole #8  351 yards  Palisades Golf Course  Savanna, Illinois.

There is a story to go along with this hole-in-one. I am a very long hitter, always have been and not because I have had golf lessions but because I am self taught. I have a bad left shoulder that causes me to come up off my feet when I really let go with the club. The guys I was teamed up with during this tournament said to me, as I moved up to make my drive, we are never going to win this thing so give it all you have. I put everything into it I could muster and let go; when my swing came through it lifted me off my feet and I must have been little to close to the sand box because as I was trying to stay on my feet I triped over the sand box and fell flat on my you know what. I had recently purchased a new set of clubs and the driver was made of titanium and there must have been a speck of sand on the ball because one of my team members shouted out as I was falling: DID YOU SEE THE SPARKS FLY OFF HIS CLUB. So I made the shot of my life and fell on my backside doing so! All I remimber is seeing the ball take of like it was shot out of a cannon and hearing people on the green screming something as I was getting back on my feet. I thought someone hit a really nice shot from the sounds coming from the next hole, I found out shortly there after that shot was mine, at first I did not beleive it. Fact is I still run that shot through my head almost every time I am teed up. I am now 64 and still hit them over 300. Contributed by Paul Hertensen Acemaker Hole 8# 351 Yards! Palisades Golf Course, Savanna, Illinois.
We have a saying at National Hole-In-One Association, a hole-in-one is a great thing.   Nice story Paul! 351 yards what a hit!

Hole-in-ones runs in the family!

Kyle and Barbara Ewing are quite a match. Kyle made his ace on June 17, 2008 on Hole #4 at the Sweetwater Golf Club in Haines City, Florida. She just couldn’t bare to have him be the only hole-in-one acemaker in the family. Just 3 days later, on June 20 at the same course, she hit her hole-in-one on Hole #1. Must be some magic out there in Sweetwater! Congratulations Kyle and Barbara.
