Golf is a special game! Thanks Wm. Tolar Nolley
A special day: playing with my 88year old father in law and his friend (89) who both shoot their age or better! My father in law had called me that morning to play and I drove an hour and a half to meet them.At their age, golf moments are quality, not quantity! We were enjoying a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at the River’s Bend Golf Club along the James River in Chester, Virginia. At the reconfigured Par 3 16th hole, I took out a Hogan Sand Wedge that my father had lent me since I left my 56 degree Cleveland in South Africa, where my wife and I live half the year.
As I looked down on the 109yd challenge with the flag just up and left of center, I remembered the way the green slopes from right to left. Aiming just right of the flag I watched what felt like a relaxed and full swing shot that glided through the afternoon air. As the Niki One Black #2 hit the front of the green and started to roll, others on the 17th tee box started to clap. Then what seemed like a moment we all hope for, I watched it turn ever so slightly and then curl on the left side of the flag and bow its head into the cup! Everyone went wild, me especially at age 51! My first hole in one…using my fathers wedge…and playing with my father in law (who at the age of 83 got his first hole in one!). A great moment and one more check off the bucket list!
