PGA Show update Friday

Well, it was a rainy morning but now cleared off and cool around 50 degrees, at least that’s somewhat cool from where I’m from…Dallas that is.   Now about the show, I think the weather kept some away this morning but now its picked up some.  We expected the traffic to be down this year as the economy tanked.   I read that golf rounds were down less than 1% for the 2008 year.

Still the big story here are the Nike and TaylorMade drivers.  The loft and lie can be changed up to 4 degrees!  Looks like they have quite a few interested this year!  Loudmouth golf apparel is pretty neat, if you can’t be at the show then check out their site www.loudmouthgolf.com  I also liked the neuroswing…it’s a portable golf ball dispenser.  It’ll hold 42 balls and set them on a tee so you don’t have to bend over.

It was announced yesterday by the federal government the golf industry would not be eligible for the economic stimulus funding.  Also, the Ginn Development Company would immediately end all support for professional golf.    Looks like one of the big test for the show is to develop momentum from here and the tour to beat expectation this spring.  I’m thinking that with Tiger coming back soon, Michelle Wie with her card now, the golf market will do just fine in 2009.  Looking at last years numbers, people love golf and will continue to play.

When you get ready for your golf tournament and like to offer prizes to your golfers, you can call National Hole-in-one Association for a quote on hole in one insurance.

PGA Golf Show

The 56th PGA Golf Show kicked off today with around 1,100 exhibitors!  It appears that one of the hot trends in golf this year will be easy switch out shafts and clubheads, of course you can now make the change prior to your round of golf but you can’t make a change during the round according to the new rule change by the USGA.  www.usga.org/playing/rules/rules.html for complete rules and decisions.

It’ll be interesting to see how the big topic: the economy will play in this years show.  According to the show management around 40,000 PGA Pros, retailers, manufacturers, exhibitors and industry executives will be in attendance at the largest golf show of the year.

You can meet the “King of Aces” Mancil Davis at the National Hole-In-One Association’s booth # 4326 between 2-4 each day. He’ll be there to talk about golf, his aces, and how to run a golf tournament or million dollar shootout with hole-in-one insurance coverage.  Line up your best questions!

You can also follow the show with from 10 am to noon on Sirius 208 and XM146 on www.PGATOUR.com

I’ll be giving show feed back so check tomorrow and hear how its going!
